Exclusive: Frasers Group closes in on deal to buy Coggles from THG

Frasers Group is understood to be close to finalising a deal to buy premium fashion retailer Coggles from THG.

The move follows the retail titan’s recent acquisition and administration of Matches earlier this year, sparking fears that the same fate may meet Coggles.

THG snapped up the indie fashion retailer out of administration back in 2013, although it did not take its stores business.

However, it returned to bricks and mortar in 2018, opening a store in Cheshire.

Founded in 1974 as Sarah Coggle, the retailer offers a curated selection of designer clothing, footwear, and accessories for both men and women, alongside home products.

It will be the latest upmarket fashion acquisition for Frasers Group, however, it has recently closed a slew of businesses.

Alongside Matches, Drapers reported last week that it has shut Sunderland indie Aphrodite just months after it acquired it earlier this year.

While in March it called in administrators for Kids Cavern and Base Childrenswear, retailers it purchased from JD Sports as part of a £47.5m deal just over a year ago.

THG declined to comment.
