Shein approaches ex-chancellor Sajid Javid for role ahead of IPO

Shein has approached former chancellor of the exchequer Sajid Javid about taking a role as the fast fashion giant progresses with its plans to float on the London Stock Exchange.

According to Sky News, Javid is among several senior city figures who have been in discussions with the retailer’s executive chairman Donald Tang in recent weeks.

City sources said that the move could result in Javid joining Shein’s board or becoming an adviser to the company.

Former BBC Trust chair Baroness Fairhead is also understood to be on the list of candidates drawn up by headhunters.

It comes as Shein has turned its attention to a London following difficulties in securing approval from US regulators for a New York float.

An IPO would likely value the Chinese fashion giant at around £50bn or more, making it London’s second-largest stock market float in history.

Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan and Morgan Stanley are understood to be advising on the deal.
