Mango to open biggest northeast store at Gateshead’s Metrocentre

Mango is set to open a new store at Gateshead’s Metrocentre this summer, its biggest one in the region.

The Spanish fashion retailer has taken a 6,233 sq ft space, where it will sell an assortment of womenswear and menswear, adjacent to Jo Malone in the centre’s lower Red Mall, next to the likes of Zara, H&M and Flannels.

The signing comes as Mango revealed plans to open more than 20 new stores this year as it looks to bolster its presence in the UK.

The business will grow its footprint in London and Scotland, as well as open in selected cities in Northern Ireland, central and southern England for the first times.

CBRE director at Sovereign Centros Ben Cox said: “Introducing Mango to Metrocentre brings an added dimension to an already compelling fashion offer.

“Mango will be a highly complementary addition to our Red Mall line up, which has seen significant investment and an abundance of new commitments over the last twelve months.”

The signing follows Footasylum’s opening of a new and upsized space at Metrocentre which has increased its store size by 25% to 12,375 sq ft.

The shopping centre has also seen a flurry of new investment with shops including Sports Direct, Flannels, and Zara expanding their units in the red mall.
